Gwendoline Pieters
Gwendoline Pieters is a French painter born in 1969 in the south of France. She studied art, which led her to fashion, painting, and art history, notably in Florence, Italy. A lover of Cassis and its calanques, she was inspired by this region to begin her artistic career, following in the footsteps of artists such as André Derain and Henri Matisse.
Since her first exhibition in 1995, Gwendoline Pieters has developed a distinctive style characterized by vibrant colors that blend seamlessly into sweeping forms. She explores a variety of techniques, including oil, pastel, and acrylic, flirting with Fauvism while also playing within the boundaries of Pop Art.
Her talent has been recognized at numerous art events, and she has exhibited in several galleries in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and the United States. Her works are included in private collections around the world, including those in Alaska, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, and the European Union.
She is deeply attached to the Mediterranean light and strives to capture its effects on the region's timeless subjects, such as vineyards, headlands, the sea and landscapes, creating paradises vibrant with light.
In 2014, she participated in the Salon d'Automne in Paris, a historic French art fair held on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. That same year, she presented a retrospective of her work in the Salles Voûtées of Cassis Town Hall, highlighting her attachment to this region and her artistic development.
Gwendoline Pieters continues to live and work in Cassis, where she draws inspiration from the Mediterranean landscapes that surround her.
